Reed Flute Caves

Reed Flute Caves seem to be the most overlooked attraction in Guilin, China. Most travellers at my hostel have either not bothered visiting them or did not even know they exist. Yet they're located only 7km outside the city centre, and there is a direct bus there that costs only one yuan.

The caves are over 180 million years old and have inscriptions that can be dated as far back as 792AD. They were discovered in the 1940s by a group of refugees fleeing the Japanese troops. Today, they are lit up in multi-coloured artificial light.
